What is the difference between lithium and alkaline batteries, and why would I use one over the other?
I suppose you mean lithium Primary batteries are not rechargeable Li-Ion? primary lithium batteries? have double the life of the alkali and its voltage is almost constant. They are also more light in weight, volume and can output more current, and have slightly higher energy storage per unit. So we are definitely better in every measure. But primary lithium batteries are more expensive than a good alkaline. So the correct answer depends on what you are doing. If it's a flashlight, I would continue with alkaline. More expensive regulated flashlights are available for alkali that are as good as lithium and save a bundle on the cost of the battery. If this is a camera, use NiMH rechargables (purchased at Target). The current requirement of high alkali kill too quickly.
