How to Gain Vertical Power
So many companies online offer programs that guarantee to increase your vertical power. How sad that most of them will do absolutely nothing for you. The fact is that most of these programs are based on antiquated ideals, misguided concepts and simply incorrect information. When training for vertical power, your goal is multifaceted. You need to increase speed, strength, balance and flexibility.
Most programs focus strictly on speed and endurance. The only kind of endurance you want to increase is that of your quick muscle fibers. Your focus needs to be on achieving maximum height with each jump, but only by doing a few repetitions that are intense. If you do large numbers of repetitions, you will develop slow muscle fibers, and in the long run, that is simply counter productive. But all the quick muscle fibers in the world won’t do you much good if you don’t have other important qualities.
Flexibility allows you to reach farther, jump higher and feel better. There is plenty of scientific evidence that shows a long muscle is a happy muscle. What that means is that you have to stretch. Flexibility prevents injuries, lets a muscle reach its maximum length, and helps worked muscles heal faster. When a muscle is regularly at its maximum length then when you contract it strongly, it has a greater impact; that means you can jump higher.
The need for good balance should be self explanatory. If you are trying to reach greater heights, you better come down right. The higher you jump the more strain your body will take upon impact. With good balance you will maintain better posture and return to the floor in a good position. That will reduce your odds of getting injured.
One final note, if you are really serious about improving your vertical power, spend some money on a coach. Even if you only see the coach for one or two sessions, he or she will help you correct any mistakes in form you make. Those mistakes are costing you inches.
